The Pantheon by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa 27 BCE - 125 CE

"The word Pantheon is a Greek adjective meaning “honor all Gods”. In fact the pantheon was first built as a temple to all Gods.

The dome was the largest in the world for 1300 years and until today it remains the largest unsupported dome in the world.

It is the third version of the building. The first one was built in about 27 B.C., but burned down; the second, built in the 1st century A.D., also burned down. This, the third, was built in 125 A.D.

This explains the inscription above the porch, “M·AGRIPPA·L·F·COS·TERTIVM·FECIT,” which stands for, in English, “Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, consul for the third time, built this.” Agrippa lived in the 1st century B.C. The inscription was added as a nod to him, as the original founder."
