Ban Chao and King Yule (Zhong) of Kashgar (aka Shule) in 73 CE

This is an odd statue. Before I read about it, it looks like a friendly pact is going on. However, the two were enemies. Ban Chao murdered Zhong for seeking independence from China. His message to Zhong essentially being 'obey or die':

"Ban Chao then placed Zhong, the son of the elder brother of Cheng, on the throne of Shule. Zhong later revolted, Chao attacked and had him executed" (Book of Later Han).

Relief of Ban Chao (left) appointing Zhong (right) as king of Kashgar (73 CE) at the Ban Chao Memorial Park in Kashgar. Unknown date of statue construction, probably 20th-21st century.
