Sogdian man & Chinese woman, 7th-9th C. CE
"The Sogdians, who had accumulated wealth through trade in China, gradually began to realize the need to create their own political forces. In other words, they needed politicians who would support them and guarantee their business activities without cumbersome procedures.
Although the Sogdians had risen in their political status in this way, their social status in China was still low. Some Sogdian leaders tried to solidify their power while certainly raising their status by marrying Han Chinese aristocrats. The power of the Sogdians in North Korea has reached a level that cannot be ignored.
In any case, the Western culture was introduced into the Jungwon during this period of the Weijin, South and North Dynasties, especially during the Northern Empire. Afterwards, it was inherited and maintained during the Sui and Tang dynasties, which unified the northern and southern dynasties."
