Eshpoldo wakes Chotkar by unknown artist
"Many years have passed since then. A dense forest has grown around the hill. Every spring the hill was covered with fragrant flowers, it was covered with patterns, like a beautiful expensive carpet. No one came close to the hill. All sacredly honored the mandate of the forest hero, lived according to his precepts and protected his peace. But the rich did not like that working people behave rebelliously. Therefore, the rich conceived a dirty deed. They bribed one Mari named Eshpoldo in order to unnecessarily raise Chotkar from the grave.
Eshpoldo went to Chotkar's grave and met the old man. Upon learning of Espoldo's intention, the gray-haired old man said:
- Don't go there, you can't. Chotkar will be offended if in vain, you disturb him, and the second time he will not rise to help us. Then the enemy will conquer our land.
Eshpoldo, after listening to the old man, laughed.
- Very much you, old people, are always careful and afraid of everything. He did not even think to obey the advice of a wise old man. Stealthily made his way to the hill, climbed it and shouted:
- Chotkar, Chotkar! Enemies are pushing us!
Before he had time to shout, as thunder struck, the hill shook and the grave opened. The wind swept like a whirlwind and bent the trees in the forest. The lid of the coffin cracked, Chotkar Patyr emerged from the grave. He was also tall and powerful. His gray hair was silver, and his white beard covered his entire chest. A heavy sword glittered in his hand.
- Where are the enemies, who should be beaten? - he thundered, eyes sparkling.
“There’s no one,” said the insidious Eshpoldo in horror. - I just wanted to find out if they say the truth about you ...
- What have you done, unfortunate boy! - Chotkar said sadly and slowly sank into his grave.
A few years later, the Tatar governors learned about the death of Chotkar Patyr and the skova attacked the Mari lands.
The Mari fought bravely, defending themselves from the evil nomads. But the Tatars fought bravely, and there were more of them. And they began to overpower the Mari.
- Chotkar, Chotkar! Enemies are pushing us, - cried the Mari, gathered at the hill. But the second time Chotkar Patyr did not get up."
