Seal of Eshkingil, Lord of (Ga)rokan, probably Hephthalite 5th-6th C. CE
"The Seal of Khingila is a historical seal from the region of Bactria, in southern Central Asia.
Kurbanov considers it as a significant Hephthalite seal. It has also been considered as intermediate between the Kidarites and the Hephthalites.
The seal has a Bactrian language inscription mentioning the ruler "Eshkingil", with the title xoadeo ("Lord", "King"), and has been dated to the 5th-6th century CE, or to the first half of the 5th century CE. The legend, deciphered by Nicholas Sims-Williams, reads:
εϸκιγγιλο (...) (ρ)ωκανο χοηο
eškiggilo (...) (r)ōkano xoēo
"Eškiŋgil, Lord of (Ga)rokan"
— Legend on the seal.
The full reading was possibly “Eshkingil, lord of (the people) such-and-such” or “Eshkingil, son of so and-so, the lord”. The Khingila in this seal is first known person to bear the name or title Khingila."

Note the dress with right-pointing collar, similar to other Hephthalite-era art. I'm curious if the symbol under the hand holding the flower is a "tamga". I haven't seen this one before, but it looks partially similar to the ones from Chach in that it has a backward and forward "C" shape. |
