Minoan Thera Wallpainting Exhibition: Altar with Monkeys, 17th C. BCE
"Sector Alpha
Fragment of Altar with Monkeys
The building in Sector Alpha was almost totally destroyed owing to water erosion. As a result, the original location of the few fragments of wall-paintings found in the rubble is unknown.
The reconstruction shows the upper portions of a monkey with its forepaws raised. From other Bronze Age sources, we know that the images of papyrus flowers in conjunction with the stylized horns of consecration indicate an altar."
